The Battle of New Orleans
The Battle of New Orleans, though not one to influence the outcome of the war, was one that arguably decided the future of a nation. It is considered to be one of America's most crucial victories and it was unquestionably one of Great Britain's most humbling defeats.
The Battle of Shiloh
Shiloh is a Hebrew place name that translates to words like peace, tranquility, safety, and opposition to war. In this spirit, the Shiloh Methodist Meeting House was born. The tiny log building was a place for love, for joy, and for the cleansing of the soul. But the serenity of its picturesque Tennessee countryside would soon--and forever--be broken. In April of 1862, the little church became the center point for one of the bloodiest battles in history.
Eminent Domain
There is no arguing that the eminent domain law is unfair to some. Even though the Fifth Amendment attempts to make it fair, by requiring just compensation for the property, there really is no way to forcibly, yet fairly, take someone's land.
The Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is a man-made waterway that cuts through the Isthmus of Panama and connects the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. The canal shortens the time it takes to reach either ocean from the other by about two weeks. It shaves over 7000 miles of South American coastline off the trip.
