Looking out for my own health.
August 26, 2005
I saw the Dr. yesterday. He is pleased with how I am doing with the radiation. He told me to make an appointment with my other Dr for next week so I did.
They gave me my appointment card today and it was for Sept 20th. After my treatment I went back out and told the front desk that my Dr. wanted to start chemo in 1 week so the appt they made for me wouldn't work. She asked the person who does it and she said no, her chart says 3 weeks. I again told her the Dr said he only wanted to wait 1 week after the radiation. He didn't feel like he could wait the customary 3 weeks.
They came back and said the nurse would talk to me on Monday about it. I told her no and by this time I was a little loud. They didn't like that so the Dr.'s nurse came out and called me in. She said it was her fault. She didn't check the chart. I told her I was looking out for my own health and she said you should but you need to respect the other patients. [Cheryl's note: Judy doesn't mention this here, but she told the nurse that perhaps the other patients should know to look out for their own health, too.]
I got my appointment for Friday of next week to set up the chemo for the day after Labor Day and they will do my Lab on Friday but I still may not see the Dr.
I had only asked for parts of my medical records. Test and results, etc., but now I am going to ask for copies of all my records.
My hair started to fall out a few days ago so I've been looking for hats. I don't think I do hats good. Do Rags I think will work better.
I went to work on Thursday the 25 of August for the first time since my diagnosis. It was really good for me to see everyone and be able to work a little. I will be taking home paper work and doing it at home and taking it back. Some days I will stay and work in the office and whatever I can do.
You know it's funny when you keep a journal and miss writing in it for a few days how much seems to happen in a day. When you are taking life for granted you don't think about it, but being faced with a terminal illness changes everything.
As for the word terminal, I don't like it because some people, few as it may be, beat small cell lung cancer and we are all terminal anyway. We just don't know when and neither does anyone else. When it's time, it's time. We will all die--some sooner than others.
I was asked if I had regrets as to how I lived my life and I had to say yes I do. I regret many things in my life but I did the best I could with the life I had or I would like to think so. I made many wrong choices in life. I didn't have a easy life but I sure had better than a lot of people. It can always be worse and tomorrow is always a new day to make things better.
I love my family very much and I regret not spending more time with them. It never seems we have enough time in our busy lives to think about what is really important.
My grandson did not take well to kindergarten so his mother is taking him out and I will be teaching him at home. I am happy about that because I want to spend as much time with him as I can and I don't like to see him unhappy. There is so much going on here now he doesn't need the extra stress.
I home schooled for 8 years or you could say I had my own private school. I had 8 children of all different ages from 4 different families. These children were pulled out of private schools because they were behind and sent to me. They all did well and when I had to quit they went back into private school well beyond their grade level, so I know I can teach my grandson one on one and no stress.
That's so much better than trying to put him in a over crowded room of children that have been in day care and preschool and know the system where Kevin has not. He just came out to tell me it's time to go to bed so I told him to go upstairs with Paw Paw, but he said Paw Paw said we have to wait for you, so I guess this is it for tonight.
