Things were looking good at first, but now I'm sure I won't be seeing any fruit from the plants. I think I should have thinned them out. Flowers keep blooming, but then they die and nothing happens.
My Ugly Watermelon Garden Part Two
The side garden is officially a disaster. I'm trying to get the few plants that survived to grow, but it's not going well.
The back garden is looking good, but still ugly. In the next couple of weeks I'm determined to get out there and make it prettier. It's just so hot! I can only take a few minutes of it at a time. These plants are going to need some room though, so I'm going to have to get it done.
I'm concerned about pulling the roots out when I'm trying to get at the grass and weeds. It seems like the plant roots are right at the surface, just barely covered with dirt. Watering them is also very tricky. The water washes away some of the dirt. Maybe that's why they say to plant them in a nine inch tall hill, which of course I didn't do.
Anyway, now that the plants themselves are looking pretty, I'm going to do some research on how to care for them from here.
