I have no experience growing a garden, but when we moved out here to the country I thought I might give it a shot. These are pictures of my ugly watermelon garden.
I wish this could've been around when I was homeschooling. For the first time in my life, I'm not worried about how I'll earn an income. I’m not here to convince you to check it out, but I want to share that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that might disappear early next year (2025). Below, you’ll find a few of the products that I create videos for, earning a commission each time someone buys from my video. If you want to make more money than you ever dreamed, head over to TikTok and explore the TikTok Shop for Creators (it is 100% free). This is my way of giving back. I want everyone who needs a miracle like this to know about it!
I have no experience growing a garden, but when we moved out here to the country I thought I might give it a shot. We bought six kinds of seeds--watermelon (crimson sweet and congo), cantaloupe, tomato, jalapeno pepper, and corn--and figured we would plant one row of each to begin with.
That was at the beginning of April. Joey bought Alex a cherry tomato plant and planted it in a bucket at about the same time. Then I hurt my finger and couldn't use the hoe, so I gave up on the garden idea for this year.
This month that tomato plant started growing tomatoes and we were thrilled! With my finger feeling better, I thought I might try again to till a few rows for the garden. Well, I found out quickly that thinking about doing it and actually getting out in the hot sun and accomplishing it are two totally different things. The thought is beautiful, but acting on it is exhausting!
I gave up almost as soon as I started. I am such an indoor person. I was so hot, I thought I would never cool down.
So I opted for easing my way into this gardening thing. Today I chopped up two small sections of dirt, one in back and one at the side of the house, made two short hills about two feet long and sprinkled congo watermelon seeds on them. Later, I read the instructions and went back to push the seeds down into the soil about a half inch and I gave each hill a two-liter bottle full of water.
The dirt has lots of plant roots and small rocks mixed in. I figure I'll see if the watermelon grows and then work on cleaning the other junk out. It's not pretty, but we'll see what happens.
May 30 - I have tiny plants popping up. I think it may be the watermelon.
June 3 - The hill in the back has quite a few plants growing. The hill on the side only has one bigger one and several very tiny ones. I think the tiny ones may not be getting as much water for some reason. I have been giving both hills one two-liter bottle of water twice a day and they both get all day sunshine.
These are pictures of my ugly watermelon garden, row one (back hill) and row two (side hill). As you can see, they are full of rocks and weeds and they really are ugly. Now that I know the watermelon will grow, I'll try to clean them up some. I know I'm supposed to thin out the watermelon too, but I don't know if I will. If they look like they have enough room, I'll just keep them all.

June 5 - While I was trying to clean up a little around the watermelon, I went ahead and made a couple more hills and planted cantaloupe. It's supposed to be planted by May, but considering that was just last week, I think it'll still grow fine. Maybe later I'll plant some corn.
June 8 - Tiny cantaloupe plants are emerging in the back of the house. I discovered the side of the house does get shade from the trees starting about six in the evening. That's probably why the plants are not growing as well. The back of the house gets no shade at all. I have about twenty watermelon plants growing in back and ten at the side.
